Alistair Bonnett is a professor of social geography at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. He is also an author of several books on topics such as geography, politics, culture, and identity. Some of his notable works include Unruly Places: Lost Spaces, Secret Cities, and Other Inscrutable Geographies, The Age of Islands: In Search of New and Disappearing Islands, and Elsewhere: A Journey into Our Age of Islands.

He has been researching and teaching the international politics and geography of anti-racism, white identities, and racism for over thirty years. He is also interested in the exploration of unusual and hidden places, such as ghost towns, micronations, and underground cities.
